The core of the design is a planetary gear set from Ford's C6 transmission. This planetary gear set is used as a Power Splitting Device (PSD), that combines two electric motors/generators (MG1 and MG2) and an internal combustion enginer (ICE). MG2 is used as the main drivemotor while MG1 is used as the main generator and the starter for the ICE. A third electric motor is used to apply a torque to simulate a load.

Tachometers are to be used to measure the RPMs of MG1, MG2, and ICE while a load cell is used to measure the torque from the load motor and the drive motor. Below is the systems logical flow diagram that uses feedback loops to obtain the desired performance:
